Well, my first guess would be that since he didn't bother to gather the eggs as asked, he may have neglected other areas of care of the birds in your absence as well - so a production interruption would be quite expected.

will production pick up you think? that's not like them.

Did they run out of water? If so, you will see a disruption in eggs.

Any predator issues? That can cause a disruption in eggs as well.

Does it look like a pillow exploded in the coop/run? This is the time of year for molting, and birds cannot lay eggs while molting.

Well when we got home I did see no water and filled it right away.

Are son was watching our pets, I think he neglected in all of those areas just no the hens.

Thank goodness you came home before his inattentiveness had more serious implications. Glad you are there now to be sure everyone gets all they need. Guess someone just neglected his way off the pet-sitter list.

We left my college age son for 2 weeks while we visited out of state relatives. He had to take care of 3 cats, 3 dogs. 1 parrot, & 1 parakeet. All was well except for the parakeet. Poor little guy was dead in the cage. I asked my son when he died, & got a horrified look. He had completely forgotten to feed/water him. He was right next to the parrot - how the heck could he have missed him. I was pretty ticked. At least your girls are alive!
