I don't have ducks just yet, but I have a dumb question. Lets say that my future drake is a busy guy mating all my future ducks. And let's also assume that all the ducks lay close to every day. If I can't get to eating or using the eggs within a week, how can I stop the development within the egg? I already read that some fertile eggs can be placed in a fridge and yet they can still develop in spite of the cold temps. Does the fridge slow down development within the egg at least?

Eggs only develop under heat, such as broody mom or an incubator. The egg remains "fertile" but it will not form an embryo in the fridge

Thank you huskerhens18. So, if the eggs are picked-up the same day it is laid, it will not develop further as long as it is refrigerated, unless it is removed from fridge and placed into an incubator? Do I have that correct?
Embryos don't start forming for a couple days, but I would still suggest collecting eggs within 24hrs of being laid.
Even room tempature is fine, the egg must reach 99.5°F to even start trying to develop an embryo, if it's under that then you don't have to worry.
So yes you have it right.
Room tempature or fridge = NO baby
Incubator or broody mom = YES baby

I believe it takes 28 days for a baby duck to hatch, I might be a day or two off. So even if you accidentally forget to collect eggs for three or four days, there's no need to panic, there's no baby yet, I just would not eat those as they probably are gross.
