Storage bin for feed and supplies

I need better storage for feed bags and other misc items in the coop. Some of my hens like to roost on bags and things that I would prefer to keep them away from. Has anyone constructed a box that works for this? I visualize a 3' box with a slanted lid so they won't roost on it. Does anyone have another idea or plans that you would share? thanks!

Lots of people keep feed in the metal trash cans with firm fitting lids.

The lids fitting snug seems to only be in one or two brands of cans so try them before you buy them.

They help keep rodents out too.

I store my feed in buckets with gamma lids inside the house. It works for me.

Personally I don't store much feed. I buy it weekly and fill the feeders asap. I put my feed in buckets because the buckets are easier for me to handle, Sometimes I may have a bucket or two left over and I put lids on them but they aren't stored where the birds can get on them. You can always make a box like you visualize. I have some nest boxes with the slanted tops. They work great. Good luck and have fun...

Some use an old chest freezer. You can get a non-working one free, and then use a little wood over it if you want a slant.

Are you handy with the construction of said box?
Should not be to hard to make.
You would need some 2x4's, and a couple sheets of 3/4 plywood.
Make the back higher than the front for the slant. If you make it slanted enough, the chickens will not be able to perch on top of it.
Make it tight so no rodents can take up residence.
You could use nails, 2 inch staples (if you have the air gun) or wood screws. The screws mKe it stronger IMO.
just measure the spot you want it to set in. Draw it out on paper and go for it.

PS. I use the 5 gallon buckes for my feed. Easier for me to handle and keeps mice out. Also the buckets double as a seat for me to sit on and comune with the girls at feeding time.

Me, too!

For treats and stuff, I made shelves and recycled plastic containers someone at work was tossing out.

I also use my kids' old toy hammock for bedding and what have you.

And I hung a small wooden box with tools from the coop ceiling. It currently contains a flashlight, scissors (dedicated bum feather clipping scissors), a small hammer, ceramic eggs, nitrile gloves, vet wrap, and an empty spray bottle.

To OP: I think a storage bin with a slated top would work great. I considered getting an outdoor cabinet for storage but ended up not really needing a lot of storage in the coop itself, so just a few small wood shelves were good enough for my needs.

I want a small, wall-mounted cabinet on the outside of my coop, but I haven't found one that I like, and I haven't the determination to make one yet. Maybe later when it ain't so hot!

How big is your coop...big enough to fence off a small section they can't get at?
