Store bought eggs hatch along anyone? I'm buying regular organic.

I just set 96 eggs that I bought from the store that I work at. An Amish fellow brings them in weekly. Two weeks ago I bought a dozen and threw them in the bator. All were fertile but 4 died early on. The other 8 are looking great. So knowing they were fertile I waited for him to bring more in. Last Friday was that day so I snatched up 8 dozen and set them. I told the Amish guy I was doing that and he thought that was pretty cool. He said they are production reds. They lay huge dark brown eggs and at $1.79 / dozen I can sell the chicks for 1.50 a piece. I won't be able to hatch thhem fast enough!

I would still love for people to join in! Even if it's unlikely it's only 2$-5$ and like others have said you can actually find fertilized store eggs at Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and other local organic stores. I even read in the Trader Joes thread of some people finding them at their local Albertsons or Safeway.

Thanks for the link halo & the info sphinx! I hope I didn't sound ignorant with the "red dot" thing, just what someone told me. Those pictures are very helpful.

I bought three different brands of free-range organic eggs and not 1 hatched. I did not check any for fertility before hand which I probably should have done. Some people have bought fertile eggs at Trader Joe's and hatched some out. I do not have any place close to me that has fertile eggs. Maybe a health food store will have some.
Hmmmm I just wish there was some way to know what brands have fertile mixed in because I did read on a Trader Joes board that someone had great luck with regular eggs. There is a mom and pop organic store in town and they get all their eggs from some young boys in the town over and I would bet since it is a small farm operation they might be fertile. I think I will get one of their dozens and still try one of the free range organic dozens from the store. Who knows what will happen.

I want to do this but I hope to get trader Joe's eggs while on vacation. I won't be home with the eggs for a little over 2 weeks. The other eggs I hatched out were from someone who sales to the local health food store.

Can you checkout Albertsons organic eggs?

what did I do- you can join in in 2 weeks! Even if we can't hatch all at the same time it will be so cool to see who has success with what eggs and what you get.
I didn't see any fertilized eggs at my Albertsons but that will probably be the store I go with for my regular organic eggs.

I might try this! Will have to wait till Sunday to go to Whole Foods and see what I can pick up. :D I may have some more modern games to set at the same time, or close to it, too. Why not... it sounds like fun :D

Try a farmers market. My cousin successfully hatched several eggs he got from a farmers market. Those are more likely small operations with roosters around. The fertile eggs from whole foods only had about 25% fertility when I checked. My Trader Joes eggs were mostly fertile and I got 5 hatch out of 12 (7 made it to lockdown).

Farmers Market is a great idea too! I don't have a Trader Joe's nearby, but I'll check our farmers market this weekend :D

I am so excited so many people are interested! I am going to edit the thread to list participants. Anyone who said theyre interested will be listed but if you decide you are not no worries, I will just scratch your name. :D
