Store bought eggs hatch along anyone? I'm buying regular organic.

Bacteria eggs?! *shivers* what would have happened if you ate that?

I think with everything these eggs have been through you got to expect some odd things. I think the time they spent in the ice chest wasn't good for them. At one point they were wet with condensation and I'm sure that was very bad for them. I expected to loose about half of them but not all at once. I did remove eggs that I would have left in with less abused eggs for fear of one leaking or exploding. As it is all the ones that are in now look very good.

what did i do- I am very eager to see your end results.

So everyone... I just candled for the very first time! I was expecting it to be difficult or to not know what I was looking at but I am some exciting news... I have VERY viable eggs! I was candling at random because I have 40 eggs in the bator, but the 7 store bought eggs I candled all had squirmy embryos and veins! I know I was going to take pictures but I didnt want to expose them to the light that long.
It actually looks like my store eggs are going to have a better hatch rate than my shipped eggs. I am so relieved. I really thought I was doing something wrong but I guess not!

Uh oh you guys...
I checked on my eggs this morning and somewhere in that bator is a stinky egg. Will it explode if I don't remove it?

Fertility on these eggs was excellent. If they were handled correctly a personi would have some great hatch rates with them. This next hatch I have going the eggs werent put in the cooler before I got to them. I am hoping for another good hatch

Where are you geting the eggs from? Was the box marked fertile...or just free range..or cage free???

Answering for her/him, hope that's ok...
she got them from their local market. The guy that supply's them is an Amish fellow who has a bunch of free ranging roosters and hens. She will have to answer what the box says though.

My eggs were from super 1 foods, a box marked fertile eggs. I think "rock island" they were refrigerated and almost all appear to have veins and embryos.

I (a he) get them from the store that I am the meat manager at. They are marked free range. I went out t visit the guy and saw his birds. They are great
Looking healthy birds. Fertility on those were great and I am going to candle the next batch I have going tonight and will post results. I am on day 7 with them. Two weeks to chickies!

Thanks...I have yet to find a carton marked fertile in any store around here. Even the one that's like a health food store...with lots of organic products. They have free range, but I don't know if they run free with a rooster. I guess I could give them a try. They have some that you fill a carton yourself...maybe those are the best to try. And When I was at trader Joe's they did not have any box marked fertile.

I would give them a try. Maybe a couple different kinds to up the odds of finding fertile eggs. If they are free range I would think there is a good chance of there being roosters with them. It all depends on what kind of free range too. The definition to be labeled as free range is vague. They have to have ACCESS to the outdoors, which can include an outdoor run, or actually free ranging and anything in between. Good luck!
