Store bought eggs to hatch?

I would look for pastured over organic. Organic pastured would be ever better. Free range organic, or simply organic doesn't mean much. Simply means they are packed in a barn, and able to "free range" around the barn rather than trapped in battery boxes. Unlikely their is a rooster in that equation. Pastured means they have to be kept on a pasture, some boxes will say something like 103 sq ft. per hen. Which is pretty awesome. ;)
Agreed! I know those specific ones I have in mind are free range.. least that is what it says. Just cant remember the brand i currently do not have an egg carton from that brand. But thanks for the tip!

Hi everyone! So I am still going to this little experiment of mine either by the end of the week or by early next week.

So here is the plan. I am going to buy a dozen of pasture raised eggs from each of the grocery stores in my area. The total of eggs being bought will range between 2-4 dozen. Will be checking the dates to grab the freshest eggs possible.

I imagine the success rate is low.. but what the heck! Let you guys know day 1 of incubating!

I hatched a chick about two years ago from a grocery store egg. The eggs were labeled fertile. Apparently some people think they are healthier!
In my case the eggs were shipped over by refrigerated container ship from California to Hawaii so were several weeks old when I set them. I didn’t know back then to check the dates on the carton, so I don’t know exactly how old they were. Because they came from a big production facility they had been washed prior to shipping over here. I set 6 eggs, 3 developed, 2 went to lockdown and only 1 hatched.
Life finds a way.
Here she is now, Frankie is my best layer and has one of the best personalities of all my chickens! Not sure exactly what her mix is but she hatched from a medium brown egg pretty sure she’s half leghorn and half red sex link.😊
Good luck with your hatch!

It might be useful to you and others to first crack open a few from each dozen to see if they look fertilized. If they look fertilized and don't hatch then you'll know the storage and handling messed something up.
That's how I got my idea. This winter when my ladies weren't laying. I bought eggs and they all that bullseye. I am going to Crack one open from each dozen and see.

Today is the day! So I bought 4 dozen pasture raised eggs from my local grocery stores. There was not a lot to choose from but I did try to buy the freshest date as possible. Each dozen is a different brand and all are brown eggs. I cracked open 2 eggs from each brand and all of them had a bulls eye! Needless to say that my incubator is full of eggs! I am excited and hope all of you enjoy this journey with me!
