Store liars

Nope. They would make more EEs though. To get an olive egger you need one parent to be a welsummer or a maran. Both of those breeds lay a dark chocolate colored egg. The welsummer eggs lean toward terracotta and the maran eggs lean towards eggplant, but they are both really dark.

I got my 2 EE chicks from a feed store. It said they were Ameraucanas, but their already-developed flight feathers do not carry Ameraucana coloring

Eggplant? Purple?
To me, Marans eggs look more burnt orange and the welsummer is more terracotta (brick orange).

Maybe I have just seen weird maran eggs.

They seem almost black with that eggplant underlayer.

That would be sick to have eggplant eggs... if they get huge someone might think they are eggplants

Feed stores just label the birds whatever the hatchery labels them. If no one is knowledgeable about the various breeds, they don't correct it. I had the hardest time convincing a store that their brooder full of "Domineckers" (surely the hatchery didn't say that!) was really Barred Rocks. Every one had a single comb and even being someone who used to breed them and showing the difference in one of their books didn't sway the woman behind the counter.
