Storing feed for small flocks

My 10 gallon steel feed container with lid (like a garbage can) holds 50 lbs of crumbles. The lid is nice and tight.

We found that a nice cheap rolling cooler will hold a 50lb bag of feed and it stays fresh with no critters or bug getting in, but we also store inside just for added protection. I think I bought our cooler from Lowes for about $35 on sale, it works wonderfully.

How much feed fits in there?

They come in differnt sizes, and it'll say approximately how many pounds of dog food. fit in them. Chicken feed is heavier, so 40lb one will fit a 50lb bag of chicken feed.

They are stackable but don't stack well when full, they flex out of shape a bit.

I store my 20kg feed bag opened in the laundry for about 2.5- 3 months. All the cat stuff are in there too, so fingers crossed, no rodents lol.
I was worried about freshness at first but I figured feed in the treadle feeders and self-feeders are not air-tight either.

Metal containers, even a new galvanized trash can, is your best option. A bag of feed ought to fill a 16" x 36" x 16" space.

We have a Gamma Vittle Vault and it works great.

X2. I have two of these sitting next to the coop. One for feed and a smaller one for treats. Ant, water, and citter proof. Worth the money in my opinion.
