We're under a tornado watch until 2 a.m. here in most of Middle TN.

I was online earlier this evening and at around 6 p.m. we had a huge rumble of thunder right over the trailer. I wasn't expecting it at all and had to peel myself off of the ceiling.

We just got through another huge down pour and have a feeling that I be doin' the backstroke to collect eggs and do my feeding/watering tomorrow.

Luckily, we got the tarp up over our main coop and run so atleast the chickens won't wake up, hit their yard and think that we expect them to be ducks!

Hope everyone stays safe!

I'm never able to sleep when we have storms like this, I get too pumped up!

I love a good "light show" though, but the thought of the dreaded after dark tornado just does me in.

Dawn, I don't mean to hijack your thread but this would be a good place to mention the new weather radio we just bought that I love.
We have multiple police scanner/weather radios in the house (life with a cop

) but I dislike them. In order for them to be useful you have to first suspect severe weather, turn them on and listen to the endless chatter to get any alerts for your area. You sure don't want that thing talking away while you sleep.
This new one is a Midland Public Alert radio. When you first set it up you can go online to the NOAA weather radio website and get the frequency codes for your area, program it into your radio and then turn it off and forget it.
If a watch/warning is issued for your area it will automatically come on, sound an alarm and give you the weather bulletin. It resets itself after the watch/warning is cancelled.
Since we bought it last week it's already alerted us to 3 tornado warnings, a couple of tornado watches and a bunch of severe t-storm warnings. This is the same weather pattern y'all are getting now.
We live too far out of town to hear the tornado sirens. This is the best $35 we've spent at walmart in awhile.
Y'all be safe.

Not a hijack at all!

I know what you mean about the scanners, my stepdad was the captain of the local volunteer fire station and worked with the forest fire division also when I was growing up.

I've always been facinated with storms but after being a Field Artillery Meteorologist in the Army for a couple years, I was hooked!

Thanks for the info on the weather radio! My 20th (

) birthday is coming up (all too soon) and now I know what to ask for!

For the time being, our red merle Aussie is my 4-legged weather meter. She hates storms so I can always tell by the way she acts when it's going to get bad here!

I know what you mean about the 4 legged weather meters. The night my irish wolfhound tried to squeeze herself under the couch (6" off the floor) we had a tornado pass within a 1/4 mile of the house.
20th birthday huh? I'm going to have another one of those in July.
