So my hens are starting to lay.

I've 2 americauna/ee (whatever you call them) that've laid, looks like the gold sex-link, peal (started weeks ago), bantan sultan, & I think that's it so far. I suspect someone else, but egg is really close to another hen's so I'm considering it the other's. Best part...after both americauna/ee laid by the door the next lay from them was in the nest box where pearl & my older cochin lay. My little sultan is still laying in/by the dog door.

However, today's bit of fun (trying to be back on the thread more) for everyone.....I go out to the coop late this morning to see what's going on. I've 3 hens lined up/hanging out. Turns out my cockerel Ducky, white cochin bantam 6months, is in the nest box. Just hanging out all comfy while the girls are waiting. Like usual, my phone is in the house. Ducky vacates the box shortly after I show up. Would've been a great pic I think. lol I know he's there trying to get them to lay, etc. I have 1 of the oegb cockerels doing the same thing in the dog door.

Hope everyone is doing well.

oh! Figured out pearl is a polish. Ideal (who supplies the feed store she came from) is working on a black crested white....so white not being white....the color isn't fixed/pattern not out. I'd been thinking brabanter for her.

well if i've not mentioned....2 other EE chicks have passed away rest in peace Goldie and Gypsy!

I'm so sorry. You're having an awful bout of luck. Hope it passes ASAP. Is it possibly something genetic, a bug, or the like? Much as it stinks least if you could figure out why then you might be able to stop it. They're all young aren't they? From the same place?

Lowey Ginger.....my sweet, sweet girl.....i was in the coop and i saw a bobcat run up and jump on her.my roosters started gathering the rest of the hens and running with them. it was horrible. i ran, shouting, at the stupid dumb evil will-be killed by ME bobcat, (i WILL find and kill the evil creature. i wish him dead. just like his victim.) and the bobcat ran. Lowey was bouncing up and down on her back, making horrible cries of pain. i was running to her, trying to scoop her into my arms, when she bounced into a thornbush. i was wearing a skirt and a tank top when i dove into the rosebush to save her. i shoved the thorns aside, and carried out Lowey. she was still alive, with her right lung popping out of her, and her neck broken. but just barely alive. her breathing was quick and short. her head was dangling. i carried her to the house, running at top speed and talking in a rythem, "your still alive....it's ok....it's ok....please live.....please live...." by the time i was at the house, her breathing had stopped, her heart stopped thumping, and she slipped out of the world. it was evening, so i decided to rest her in my dad's shed, wrapped in a towel, for the night.

Oh no. I'm so sorry. That's horrible. That's an awful thing to see & experience. I am glad that the rest of the flock made it.
