Story Away!

i am not sure yet. i think i just need some more good laying hens.(since i only have a flock of 3 month cocks and pullets.) i may get a few more polish if they are out there though.

I occasionally see them on craigslist here. Definitely available from hatcheries at various times, but if you're looking for show quality...then I'm clueless. I don't know of the guy I know here ships. His name is been & he's just put up a facebook page under clucking nuts poultry co. He had been breeding polish...tolbunts & possible frizzle. Could always look him up. He's had silkies & cochins..that's where I got my roo & cochin girl. Haven't had luck catching him with silkies when I've been looking. lol...seems to be my luck.

yes, i check craigslist too. i am going to wait about a week before i invest in more chickens though. i am not looking for show quality. i just want some sweet chickens, like the ones i already have. thanks though. clucking nuts....hmm...maybe...but i don't want to have to put the hens through the shipping process. i am going to start looking on craigslist in about a week.

here is a bigger version...(hope you don't mind)

i am planning to spray him with bluekote soon.
Don't mind at all....I'm learning. Plus, looking at Hats feathers & what you said about the wattles I'm wondering if my Mo is a boy...no replies to my post that I've seen yet asking in one of the breed threads. I'll post a pic of Mo for you. I think Hats & Mo could be related. lol

Understand. I was really nervous ordering thru Ideal, but the fact that I read that they're really good about crediting for a lost one helped. Which, they are. I even called on Wednesday/Thursday to let them know that I didn't lose any others & they were great about it. I did call from the post office parking lot though...after I opened the box there. Plus, the lady who called was nice enough to check the birds & had them right by her with a lamp shining on the box too I think..looked like it. She even say that one was lost before I took the band off...so at least I had another person if needed. It was really cute when I got them..a lady was there with her little girl who was so curious about the chirping. I showed her the babies & let her hold one. Her eyes went big with amazement. Showed her pics of my grown chicks too...further amazed her the color & the size, plus how tiny.

I'd love to be able to reach a point to work with local classrooms for hatching. Supply a few eggs & if needed they could return them. Or for bantams, maybe even keep 1 as a class pet...provided it could get outside time, etc. Even give a chicks they hatched to a student who's family could manage them...especially if the kid could get active in 4H or showing on their own or even just be a family who could really use the eggs/weed eating/bug eating aspect. You know? I've lofty aspirations and too much to do before I can get there, but I'm working slowly towards it all. If I was in Jacksonville I could test some of that out with my sister & her teacher friends' classes probably. I'd consider the same for a bunny too. My 1st critter I fell in love with.

This is Mo aka MoMo aka Maurene...or is it Maurice? Part of why I say my chicks & big chicks are messing with me. No crowing that I've heard, no roughness, etc. Just those wattles & pointy looking feathers on the head! I know it's not a good crest since it's not all white, but I couldn't resist the Mohawk...yes, that's where Mo came from. I'm simple that way at times. That skinny feather I think was helped to be that way, but so far no signs of being picked on like Hats.

What do you think....is she a he & playing with me by being so quiet? Are polish roosters/cockerels really that quiet? If so Mo is staying & much as I love my little Freddie he may be rehomed...little bugger has taken to nipping at my feet & ankles. Not sure if he's trying limits or looking to get my attention. Did that earlier today & I picked him up then carried him around on his back in one hand while I filled a food dish. He wasn't happy, didn't quite know what to make of it. I seriously spend too much time with my critters of late I think.

yes, if he is a male, he will begin to get stringy feathers on his/her crest. also, he will have early wattle development. check his vent area for blood feathers. (the thick feathers) usually, males have more than females. he/she has not become agressive because polands don't usually get aggressive. i will tell you more later. right now i have to get off for a little while.

Thanks. Any information as you can is most welcome! I'm guessing then at just past 2months (got them at the end of May) my Mo is a he. So 6 out of 14. I really scored with the boys! OK, no worries. Just a tweak & rethink. I'll check the blood feathers tomorrow...thick ones. I'll look at both polish to compare.

This is not the longest story ever but I was gone for the weekend and when I came home my babies we're soooooo happy to see me my pullets don't always stick beside me but they loved to see me back so much they flew all over e wanting attention Legs and Smokey Toe were the main ones to so so and they are my favorite ones

aww! that is so cute! i sprayed Hats's head once yesterday, and again today. the other roos are keeping a good distance from Hats now. at first, they tried to peck at his head, then they ran away so fast. lol. no chicken or human will mess with my Hats. (the roo ran away because it tastes bad)
