Story Away!

rub some coconut oil on then tea tree oil over the coconut oil. both are awesome for healing, plus if the chicks are like my pups like don't like the scent of the tea tree oil. just a little of the tea tree oil..the pure oil, from the pharmacy area. i haven't tried it yet with the chicks. i even use the oils on my pups.

that sounds better than me hitting them so they will stop

Does any body have any experiences with there hens laying in crazy places I left the windows down on my truck this morning and went in the house for a couple hours . when I came back out I couldn't find my two brown hens And my rooster. I looked around my whole property couldn't find the anywhere..I finally went to get in my truck to drive around looking for them and there they were all three of them in the floor board of the truck along with 2 eggs
lol...nope. My Dad's chickens have laid under his 'project' truck before as well as in the bottom part of the grill, etc. any place they could get to really. I think they wanted some privacy & to go for a ride.

I'm going to eat it all an leave none of it for them

Another evening....6 again in the 'coop' on their own!

Repeaters from last night, etc. Same routine too...once I started to pick someone up to put them to bed, Ducky started the 'I'm going on my own' trend. However, I still ended up getting 4 of them that I had to place. Of course, Freddie & Penguin were stubborn boys. lol I'll take it...every little bit of progress is a good thing.

On another note...I posted in the what breed/gender forum again. My little partridge possible gold laced (though thinking markings are wrong) cochins have vulture hocks!!!! Seriously. Someone replied & said that it was a recessive gene that happens. Seems odd when cochins were to be a true bantam...wondering if the color isn't or if at some point they once had hock feathers. Either way....still stinkin cute! My other wondering is...if they're showing the hocks would they be good for a breeding project to bring their color into a breed like d'uccle/booted bantam? I know it went the other way to bring mille fleur to cochin. Genetics I haven't even started to look into other than color curious if my hens were to hatch an egg.

i have a question? are Cochins good layers
Not bad for a bantam. Hops lays 4/5 a week a think. Some weeks less, some a bit more. Small eggs. They're suppose to be good broody moms....though Hops has yet to go broody. She didn't start laying til over a year either. She's an odd-ball though I think.

Was hoping Penguin & Ducky were girls, but nope. Now for the little chicks I've got to hope I pick better! Though...so far no one has replied to the ad for the cockerels or the babies.
