lol Oscar is being mean to my EE chicks attacking them! i let them out to stretch wings and the girls don't care but Oscar does I let them out today and he attacked them and i hit him so hard that he flew on his back i thought that would work so i let the chicks roam and he did it again and i hit him even harder this time he did the same thing and shook it off and i gathered the chicks and put them in there cage what should i do!?!i really don't like hitting my birds! should i carry him around like a dog the next time he does it?

Poor chicks! I agree with Chickensfan. They need to get used to each other through a fence or something like that. Hope Oscar starts behaving soon!

Thanks. I think it had to with him being a 'stranger' after his girls' eggs/coming into his coop. Once Dad started tossing feed out then going to get the eggs, problem solved.

Home now. Working on yard/patio/etc recovery. No issue from the boys for me. So YAY!!!

next time he does it, scoop him up, and parade him around while you do your daily chores. keep the EE's in a cage or crate for 3 days and then let them out. they need to see the others and get used to them before they meet. how is Oscar attacking? do you think he could be trying to mate? and are they the same age as Oscar? that is important

there only a month old.his neck feathers up and pecking at them repeatily as hard as he can he never did it when we got the newer hens he cared for them like they were his and the chicks have been with them for almost 3 weeks

i thought so. you might want to keep them apart until they grow old enough to protect themselves.(if you have the room for it.) they are probably still new to not being under a heating lamp.

Give them a bit more time to grow up, especially if they're a smaller/more docile breed. Can he get next to their area when the babies are penned? That might help. You're going to have to show him that the babies are yours & not to be messed with. The whole carry him, chase him off, etc. You could try starting with 1 chick, let it out &/carry it with you. I've got 1 of the babies that I just had to bring back inside. I let them out last weekend (about 2 months old) & he's been chased/picked on so he went into hiding. Not sure he came out for food/water given his eating once he was inside. I'll be making a timid bird area for him & probably the crevecoeurs as they seem mellow. I've been chasing off, etc from the babies & the boys being too rough with a girl too. I've also pinned, carried, bopped on the head/beak, etc anything & everything.

i will try anything! the are in a dog kennel that is in the coop on the ground....and he attacks it!

can you put something around the kennel to give a barrier? You've done what I did in my yard for mine. I waited until the babies were pretty much ignored. You said about space...is the area cramped? Maybe he's seeing this latest group as a threat to space/territory? Any baby he's after consistently, maybe remove & see if not having that one(s) help?
