Story Away!

glad he's not showing much. hats will learn or the australorp will. i just had a lesson with an oegb about not taking food from my bun or pecking at her. sigh. he's a total brat.

i've hen healer & no peck which i think is the same kind of stuff. problem is that he's onto me. so its gotten harder to catch him period. i keep at it. i haven't figured out who's the main culprit for doing it either...sneaky devils.
sorry to hear that. keep trying! the australorp is so wierd, because he has a henchmen. Dina, is his little worker. (dina is a boy, but i haven't changed his name.) and when he is being lazy he calls Dina to do his bidding. what a jerk. and Dina does whatever he wants. in Dina's own time, he is very sweet. when he has a command, it doesn't have to be clucked twice.

how do you do that?
i read about using clicker training with chickens like you do with dogs. i suck at using a clicker cause of how my hands/nerves are. so, i was starting to use treats. i've just been saying his name, holding the treat & waiting for him to look at me. when he does i say 'yes' & he gets the treat. not sure yet how it's working. i need to research more on chicken training. if he does end up inside (heaven help me) he needs to learn to use a litter box! granted he doesn't leave his area at all, but a box would be so much easier to clean.

i need some help.
my australorp roo is becoming aggressive toward humans. not to me, but to guests. he recently started pecking a 1 year old. the thing is, he does it when i am not around/looking. no one is willing to stand up to him. i have punished him multiple times and he knows who is boss, but he still attacks people behind my back. and recently Hats mated for the first time, with one of the australorp's hens. Hats was in the coop, and i was holding the gate closed so the Aussie couldn't come in and tear Hats off. now i am making sure not to let him get near Hats, for the worry of him attacking/hurting Hatsie Patsie. the hen Hats mated with i like to call "rooster's charm" because they all love her...
in need of help asap,
~Marie
I know this post is getting older

, but my advice is to have people who are going to be around the chickens feed them to get the rooster's attention off them. Also, they should never turn their backs on the rooster or pick up the hens when he's around. That's what worked for me pretty well, anyways.
