STRANGE ANIMALS AS PETS -- ANYONE HAVE ANY?

I have handraised squirrels as well. The best was the one named Chipper who refused to leave when we set him free. He came through the attic vents and chewed a hole in the living room ceiling to get back in. From then on, he would come and go as he pleased. The best part was my sisterinlaws would not visit because they were scared of him lol.

Found a baby dove once and hand raised it. Turned him loose and he stayed around the yard. He'd land on our heads when we'd go outside.

Heddie was my African Pygmy Hedgehog. He was a lot of fun. Had him many years ago before they became so popular.

One of the best pets we ever had was a skunk. She was descented, of course. She had the BEST personality of any pet I've ever had. If I ever don't have so many dogs, I will have another skunk.

Mine was a yellow nigerian uro. I'll have to get my other computer fixed before I can post a picture of her (the motherboard is fried, again).

Here are a few more pictures:

A white Peacock that a friend of mine has. He is walking past my car to let you know how long his tail is:

A green snake that we "relocated" to the front yard to keep it out of the chickens range:

Here is a camel that my friend (same one with the peacock) also owns. I know, it technically isn't mine, but it is a strange pet!

And a buffalo that the same friend owns:

Maidservant, here is a pic of my sulcata tortoise. I got her as a baby, she was the size of a golf ball. I have had her for over 10 years and she weighs between 50-55 pounds now. This little meal she is eating is: 1 whole head of Romaine lettuce, approx 2 cups of mixed veggies. 2 whole red bell peppers and a yellow crookneck squash. Plus some Vit/Min powder and some Calcium/Vit D-3 powder. She is a very cool critter.

Growing up, my mom found a baby Squrriel in the mouth of one of our Husky's...and rescued it. It's little front leg ended up having to be amputated as a result and my mom hand raised him. He did fine as he grew and loved to run up our arms and hang out on our shoulders. Finally when he was grown, we decided to release him back into the wild because he had started to bite...several years later a person told one of the park rangers they had seen a 3 legged Squirrel in the woods, so we knew he had made it for at least awhile.

I know I'll probably forgot a few, but here goes:
- a hedgehog when I was a teenager...she was pregnant and I didn't know, and killed the babies...bummer
- our family had a ostrich for awhile that we got at an auction...he was awesome, he used to come and peck at the windows, and when he got excited he would dance around the corral...it still makes me laugh thinking of him spinning around with his body going one way and his head going the other
- anoles
- an orphaned Canada goose that we raised and released
- a snail that lives in a terrerium in my kitchen

Hmm. Let's see, my most unusual pets.. I've had frogs(several times), green anole, wild rat, mockingbird, freshwater crabs(in my fish tank), and a little ribbon snake. I do not have any of these now of course.

The mockingbird and wild rat were not truly pets but they were very tame. When I was younger I would throw bread crumbs to the rats that had built a tunnel system in my mother's garden. LOL. These guys were later evicted and/or killed. Parents weren't too happy with me feeding them. LOL

The mockingbird seemed like it was always in the backyard. I knew it was the same one because it had a crippled foot. It would sit just a few feet from us and sing, it raised several brood in our backyard and under our bedroom windows. Sadly, a younger mockingbird moved in and a battle insued. The 'crippled foot' was hit by a car defending his family. It was a hostile take-over, nest was ravaged and fledglings killed. I liked that little sucker.. scraped him off the pavement and buried him in my garden next to his young-uns.

Bella my little cottontail rabbit. He's the most
tame rabbit I've ever owned. He watches television
and sleeps on my pillow and follows me around the house.
I was going to release him but my vet suggested that I
do not as he is way too tame.
