Sapphire has: No more mouth lesions. Throat abscess is 70 per cent reduced. His sight is almost completely restored. . His crown feathers have completely grown back and are standing upright. He has gained 3 pounds. He is so much stronger. He started making huge gains in recovery just a couple of days ago! Not completely recovered yet, so he has to be on two more weeks antibiotics. The vet does not want to lance the abscess at this point. Merry Christmas everyone!!

In the meantime, though, I dewormed him with Valbazen along with the rest of the flock. I do think he might have face mites again. I'm deworming everybody again today with the Valbazen mash, and then again in ten days. How long should I wait after that before I treat him for mites, if he has them? And would it be better to use the Ivermec pour on or the injectible that he can eat?
OK, so I tried to let him out January 9, the vet said he should be fine without a final follow up. And he was not interested. Not one bit! Well, this is pretty normal for a bird that's been confined that long, so for the next couple of days I tried to encourage him to come out. Nope. Then I noticed he's still gulping very occasionally so I decided to give him a bit longer. He's been acting fine and the gulping seems to be slowly going away. He's eating normally now, not inhaling every bit of food that he can find, like he was doing before. It's been chaos around here since then so I haven't had a chance to closely examine him, but we're going to try to this weekend, and if necessary take him back to the vet for a final followup.
Ok but what I'm saying is, he's already had treatment for worms. I don't think it would be a good idea to use Ivermectin on top of the dewormer which is still in his system. It can be absorbed through his skin if I use the pouron, and I'm afraid it might make him sick if I use it on top of the dewormer, since Ivermectin is used as a dewormer, also.
