One of my australorp hens has got a "little" bubble right near her eye but she behaves normally and it doesn't seem to cause her pain. Is it an infection or she just hit her head on something? Or could it be the fault of an insect or a mouse?

Could be from an insect bite or a peck to the- do you see anything on the bubble that might look like a sting or tiny peck wound?

I would keep watch on for a day or two to see if it goes down.

Is it firm or fluid filled? If it has fluid in it then I would suspect infection but it it is firm it could be a tumor or an infection. Give her some apple cider vinegar in her water to help boost her immune system. Oregano is helpful too. if it is an infection and gets bigger you may have to lance it so that it doesn’t injure her eye or something from the pressure.

I think fluid filled but it is also quite firm because probably the fluid inside the bubble is dense. Thank you for the advices!
If it's an infection, is it safe to eat her eggs?

Yes, it is safe to eat the eggs unless you treat her with antibiotics. It is probably puss inside the bubble. Chicken puss is thick like cream cheese, gross, I know. If it continues to fill up or starts to smell bad or stays for more than a week then I would very carefully lance it. Otherwise just watch her. If she is acting fine then it is just a local issue and probably not a big deal. Other, more experienced chicken keepers correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like something that will eventually take care of itself.

The situation is still the same. I think that I'm not going to lance the bubble because she is acting fine. It's a bit strange to look at though

You could try a topical treatment. Triple antibiotic ointment (without painkiller) may help. Or a warm compress might help drain it if its a gland issue. Or just leave her alone and see what happens. Just be aware that acting sick can get chickens eaten in the wild so they try to hide symptoms and are very good at it. Keep a close eye out for any slight change. Otherwise good luck with your girl!

Thank you for all these good advices! :highfive: maybe the triple antibiotic ointment could be the right solution but if it doesn't work, I will not lance the bubble cause she seems to be fine and I don't want to cause unnecessary pains.
