I would take in to vet in near future in case needs antibiotic for ingrown feather quill.

Wow, Thank you!! Up to now I had never even heard of a "bot fly" - or their larva. But, upon checking Google images (yuck!) ... it seems really close to what I saw on my hen. The part I saw sticking out was dried up and crusty, but had 'segments' on it like the larva, and yet still sticking out of her rear end. This is freaking me out enough that I WILL take her to the vet to get it checked out. I'm hoping it's a broken quill, but my gut tells me bot fly larva, especially after seeing the Google images. :-( Either way, the vet can remove it, and treat the area as needed. I'll let you all know what I find out. Many thanks again.Possibly a bot fly larva in that hole...![]()

I live in CA, in Sonoma County ... about 1.5 hrs north of San Francisco.@MarcyG what part of the world are you in?
