Strange crusty hole/scab on my EE

Possibly a bot fly larva in that hole...:frow
Wow, Thank you!! Up to now I had never even heard of a "bot fly" - or their larva. But, upon checking Google images (yuck!) ... it seems really close to what I saw on my hen. The part I saw sticking out was dried up and crusty, but had 'segments' on it like the larva, and yet still sticking out of her rear end. This is freaking me out enough that I WILL take her to the vet to get it checked out. I'm hoping it's a broken quill, but my gut tells me bot fly larva, especially after seeing the Google images. :-( Either way, the vet can remove it, and treat the area as needed. I'll let you all know what I find out. Many thanks again.

Your welcome. I look forward to the results...:sick...:frow

Do you think a bot fly or warble would be a problem in winter? I would think it would be swollen if it were that. Just removing the scab and probing it with a sterile needle would be pretty easy. Look for a feather that cannot get to the surface. It also could be a wound scab. My vet would probably charge $150 just to look at it and scrape the skin.
