Strange egg color?

Hi everyone! So my buff Orpington hen laid her first egg yesterday and I was wondering if the color was something anyone else had gotten before. I read buff Orpington eggs should be light brown but this one was pretty dark, like grocery store dark. Could this be due to the fact that the rooster that’s with her is a mix of some sort? ( we still haven’t identified the mix) I’ll attach a pic of all three.

Well a rooster won’t affect eggs at all. It’s only the hen that will make the egg a certain color. If she’s a mix then possibly, but I guess some hens can lay lighter or darker.

Also, the last bird is not a rooster. That’s a hen.
Agreed. A rooster won't affect egg color, and that bird is a hen.

Our Orps laid darker eggs initially, though not that dark. As their laying cycle went on they got lighter. Our girls also would lay dark then light in the beginning as things worked themselves out with their laying. Maybe this is what is happening? Not sure, there are some very experienced people on here that may have much more info, this is just my experience.

Wait are you serious? The last two pictures are a hen!? We though it was a rooster and I posted them here a couple of times when they were younger and everyone always said it was a rooster! 😳
