Strange eye

Trixie here has a strange thing with her eye going on. At first I thought it was an infection but it is presenting oddly. It's like a white balloon. Any idea what it is and what I should do about it?

Did this happen all of a sudden or has it been gradually getting worse over many days?

My first guess is something poisonous like a scorpion nailed her above her eye. Do your chickens often scratch up these nasty critters and eat them? Do you have hornets? It looks like a sting.

I would treat with children's liquid Benedryl. Use .5ml directly into the beak. Wait 24 hours and give one more dose. That's it, no more than that.

I lanced it with a surgical scalpel and it spewed clear liquid. I put some vetricyn and terramycin on it. They don't really get to scorpions etc. There are wasps in the tree nearby but they are oddly peaceful. I just noticed it today so I'd say within the last few days. It's wicked hot out so I haven't been spending as much time out there with them lately.
