Sounds like the collar found it's way home.

I was also thinking that maybe some one stole the collar (if it had a dog liscense on it) to put it on their black dog to make it legal looking..

Or if you were offering an award for your missing dog. Maybe some one found the collar and stuck it on a black dog.. But then decided to just dump it in front of your house.. That is if you had an address on it..

But this is just wierd..

You should put a new ad on craigslist and say you found a black dog with green collar.. And mention that it had a tag.. But leave out the name.. And see if some one tries to claim it.. Then go to meet them in person at a public place to return the dog.. Then ask them where they got the collar.. I bet they will be speachless..

I sure hope you get to the bottom of it..

Just too wierd

The craigslist ad just says "Found, young female black lab at (location). Please call to identify"

No mention of a collar or tags or anything. We'll see if anyone responds.

I thought about putting in the ad, "Has a collar which did not originally belong to this dog", but decided against it.

My theory is that the collar was stolen to legalize an unlicensed dog. The dog got lost/ran away and then found by a good samaratin, who looked at the tags and instead of calling just dropped the dog off at the address on the tag.

OR whoever stole the collar now feels guilty, so returned the collar with a dog in it as compensation!

I would like your theory, except there was no license on the collar, and the tag had ONLY a name and phone number. No address.

Your second theory holds more water, except I think they overcompensated

No rabies tag? When I worked for a vet, the rabies tags have the vet's name and the id number on it. If someone found a dog with our tag on it, we could look up the rabies number and give the contact information. (Although, I think our policy was to contact the owner ourselves rather than give out that info.)

That is some story, though!

Nope, no rabies tag. Just a single tag with name and phone number - CA phone number at that!

I wouldn't have believed this story if it hadn't happened to me. My husband thinks I'm trying to pull something on him.

Trust me, honey, I know that I could just ask you if I wanted a new dog, and a lab wouldn't have been my first choice!!

Okay, than this is my official theory for how this dog came to be at your house. Congratulations on your new dog!
