If they aren't looking for that beauty, it might be better that she not go back.
A lot of people who have lost their homes to foreclosure are abandoning their pets right now-
I would still have her checked for the chip...........what if her owners were on vacation or something and she got lost outside of their town and she was trying to make her way back home?...it does happen. She may not be in the area they are looking for her! She could have some wonderful family that is just looking for her in the wrong place! I understand the bad experience in the past.....but its just not right to possibly keep this poor lost pup from a wonderful family b/c of a past experience with completely different people and a completely different dog.
Quote: I agree, I do need to get her checked for a chip. However, I did think of the scenario which you are describing, but I can't figure out why the dog sitter wouldn't be looking for her if that was the case.
The other thing... I put an ad in the newspaper stating that we found a lost dog. This is the only newspaper within a 2 hour drive of us. Unless she got lost in a city 2 hours from us, this would be the newspaper they would check.
I just can't imagine these people have put in any effort at all to find her. We do live in a college town, so I am assuming that a college kid moved away to their new job and couldn't take her with them. So they dumped her out in the country. It, unfortunately, happens fairly regularly here.

I think Stina means that the dog was possibly with her family in a different town during a vacation and could have managed to get lost in a place far from home.
This happened to a friend of mine. They were camping and someone lit fireworks. It freaked his dog out so bad he took off. They stayed there for a few days to try to find him, but had to get home to return to work, etc.
They contacted all of the shelters in the area, gave a description, and yes, the dog was micro-chipped.
Their dog ended up in a high kill county shelter with no collar.
Unfortunately, though they scanned the dog for a chip, it was not detected, being the device was from a different company that would not detect the dogs chip. ( I really hope they come up with a universal scanner!)
Because my friend was so diligent and called dang near every day,
he was able to get his dog home.
He lives in Illinois, they were camping in Kentucky.
Anyway, there are nation wide lost pet sights.
If there are no responses, you've got yourself one heck of a nice dog, and I'm glad she's with a great home.
Nerfy,
Thanks for the information. It's very possible that she was lost while she was on vacation. Do you know what any of these nationwide pet search sites are?
ETA - I'm very glad that your friend got his dog back. Its always hard to lose a pet.
Thanks for the info. I didn't see anything that looked remotely like her, but I posted on the first two anyway. I searched another few sites, but nothing promising.
