Hi everyone,

I have a 3 year old Leghorn who has developed a growth underneath her vent. She’s been quite poppy in her vent area lately so we’ve been cleaning her often but today one I cleaned her I noticed this whitish hard growth and I’m not sure what it is or what to do about it?? She’s starting to waddle also. Thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you

Those are lice nits, basically lice eggs.

Since you are in Canada, likely you will need to find a Permethrin based poultry spray or dust. Ask your feed or pet store what they have. Repeat treatment in 5-7day intervals.

There are so many nits on her, you may find that you need to either pluck some of those feathers or apply some mineral or coconut oil to help loosen them so you can pick some of them off.

Thank you. It looks incredibly bizarre!
