Strange Growth

I found this growth on my hen's back. I thought it was a tick at first! It is definitely part of her. Anyone know what this is? Am I supposed to do anything here? Thank you!

If it is at the base of the tail on the back, it appears to be the uropygial gland, aka the preen gland. It secretes an oily substance that the bird uses to preen its feathers. You might have seen your hens beaking around in that area. They're using the oil to preen.
