Hello,

I had a first batch of 4 quails a few weeks ago, and they were about 4 weeks old. 3 of them developed (on different days) suddenly a symptom that they couldn't walk (lame feet), I thought it would die they when I saw it the first time. But 2 hours later the quail was very happy running around again. While it had lame feet, it was still very vivid (picking my hand, trying to get away, but it couldn't walk). A few days later another got the same and finally also the third one. I thought it was something they picked up from where I got them.

This weekend I bought 15 more quails (4 weeks old), suddenly yesterday also 1 with the same symptoms, legs completely lame, I put it separately, 2 hours after that it was happy running around again.

Anybody has an idea what could be the problem?

If you have too many humidity fluctuations chicks will hatch with curled feet that usually go away in the first few days if they aren't severe. Were the toes curled and sort of laid on their side?

Hello,

No the birds looked completely normal. I got them when they were 4 weeks old and nothing wrong with the feet. But than 1 day you see just 1 have lame feet and after 2 hours or so it is running around perfectly. If it happened only once to 1 bird I wouldn't put to much thought into it. But now it happened again with another batch of birds, so it seems something is causing it but I am absolutely clueless what. The 2 different group of quails are not even into the same space (one is outside and the other are in a shed as I don't have finished your their outside space).

Hello,

I have to make my feeds myself so this the mixture they get to make a bag off feeds off about 100 kg.

Maize 55 kg
Wheat bran
10 kg

Soya beans 10 kg
Cotton seed cake
4 kg
Fish meal
6 kg
Shell grit
4 kg
Bone meal
4 kg
Blood meal
6 kg

Complemented with 350 gr of white salt, 300 gr off layer premix (vitamins and minerals) and 200 gr of toxin binder.

They are not on wire floors.

Sounds to me like they are eating something that is making them drunk, Maybe there are some toxic insects in your area?

I suppose it could be any agent be it food or vapor they breathed, I would search carefully for any
available source for a toxin.

Or maybe they are hitting their heads I've had a couple that whacked their heads that acted drunk for a few days, but none cleared up in a matter of hours.

Good Luck!, keep us posted.
