Ola! Chaps,

I have tried Googling and You tubing on chicken noises to no avail.
Poppet, our little accident prone boy makes some weird noises, and I was wondering if I needed to worry. He is currently injury free at present, although he was recently severely hen pecked by one of the other boys.
One is a high pitched squeek which lasts for several seconds when he just seems to be standing still. The other he tends to make when he's eating, it sounds as if he is chattering like a monkey.

Thanks chaps.

Not sure about the squeak, but the chattering sound I'd associate with tit-bitting, i.e. telling the girls "look, I got some tasty morsels of food for you" Maybe google tit-bitting and see if the sounds are similar

Could you possibly take a video of him making that noise and post it here?

First thing you need to know - if a chicken is injured or sick, they go mute. No sound. It's a survival thing not to call attention to themselves in an incapacitated condition.

The shrill, drawn out vocalization is meant to put the flock on alert to, well, anything. There doesn't need to be an imminent danger. It's sort of like an emergency broadcast test just to make sure the flock is paying attention to the lord and master. If it's any indication of his health and well being, he's feeling pretty fine when he does it.
