Strange object (egg part?) in nest box

Hi DiYMama540 and aart, and All you great BYC folks,
Thanks All, for your responses. My apologies for this late reply. Somehow my settings changed and I wasn't getting the latest email notifications re: this thread. Just seeing this now.
I took Aubrey to the vet, and after some tests it turns out she has oviduct cancer which is causing the malfunction of her egg laying. She lays either soft-shell eggs, broken eggs, or eggs with no shell (in the overnight roost), then later that day she'll pass the soft egg membrane. About every 10 days she actually lays a whole, intact egg, though the shell is very thin. The vet says I will know when it's time to put her down, by her behavior. For now, she's still acting fine, eating, drinking well, enjoys going out and about with the rest of her flock. The vet says she's essentially in 'hospice' care w/ me ...and soon (anywhere from 2-6 months?) she'll need to be put down. For the first 10 days of each month, she's on trimeth-sulfa (for the infection). Her quality of life now is really good, and I'm appreciating every day I have w/ her. She's my #1 Girl. Here's a pic I took the other day, she's smitten w/ the sunflower! :)

What a pretty girl! Hate to hear the diagnosis :hugs glad she's got you to spoil her and take good care of her while she's still feeling well!
Thank you, DiYMama540. I know the day will come, and I will be heartbroken, but that's what we all go through as pet owners who love and care for our fur/feather babies. Appreciate each day as a gift and love them up. This BYC community is a wonderful forum and place to share the ups and downs.
