Strange problem on frontal hock joint of rooster

Noticed he was limping so we picked him up and noticed on the front of his hock joint that the skin is red and lumpy, but in the crease is a black Escher Bumblefoot looking scab type material that is very stuck on. we soaked in Epson salt and betaine covered with Neosporin and softened enough to eventually get most of it off, which took several times but it came straight back.

I don't even need to see a photo of his lesion to know it's a squamous cancer. My rooster has had one of these on his leg for several years now.
