Strange Spot on Egg

Thanks Cyn, thats okay... I am just now getting officially worried now that it is happening just about everyday. I am going to have to find that link and see if anything is written up like this.

Since it is the shell, the hen probably has a defect in her that coats excess pigment on that part of the shell on the eggs way out. If the shells are thin, maybe offer more calcium, to prevent breakage, but as long as she is healthy she will be fine. Just don't use her for breeding as my bet it is genetic rather than diet induced providing they are eating well.

I wouldn't worry myself. Just keep an eye on her as this may be a hit towards more laying problems in the future if the shells are soft.

Thanks silkie.... the shells vary from thin to thick. I am feeding dumor layer feed... plus offer them free for the taking oyster shell... plus treats... plus whatever they scrounge up on 35 acres. I will deffinately not use her... though I have to find out which one it is... I know it is a RIR but I have 12 of them... have to catch her, and tag her so I can keep an eye on her. I should have done it the first day I saw her... but she jumped out and ran off... bocking... oh well... thanks
