Strange swelling on duck's foot

I didn't want to pop it hust yet, so I'm keeping him in a small cage in the garage so he can rest it. Tomorrow I'll do chamomile compresses and epsom salt soaks and more resting. On Easter I'll see how it is and if it's worse/the same then I'll try to pierce and drain it.

Sounds good - with blisters, I always think twice, three times, or more, before opening it…..Yet, I have seen a duck pop his own blister and do fine. There are always those miraculous ducks that defy the general guidelines….

Not sure that a blood-filled blister would definitely be caused by a fracture. Hematomas can occur from impact trauma.

Did something fall on the duck's foot? Did someone step on the foot, perhaps? Even another, larger animal could do that.

I don't think another animal could have stepped on it. The blister didn't drain, it just bled a tiny dot from the needle hole. I really can't think if anything that could have caused it. There's a possibility that he fell off his ramp to get into his pool and landed on it funny. The ramp is only about 8 inches high though...

I'm at a loss at what else to do.

If it's squishy,, I would drain it before the pus turns hard!

My duck had this on her toe and ankle! She has been on anti biotics.

I gave her epsom salt soaks everyday and put a few drops of iodine on her foot every day until a scab formed.
I then picked the scab and drain some pus.. wait for it to reform and repeat the process. Her ankle is slowly getting better now!

Good luck!

My Hattie was exactly the same. I have spent two weeks trying to make it better and the only thing I can say that has worked was putting the iodine on three times a day!

The vet prescribed Baytril which didn't work... she then prescribed Antirobe which is a lot more effective treating infection. It is slowly clearing but she is still limping slightly.

So try the following:

1/ Antibiotics & Syringe ( I think you can actually order them online)
2. Warm epsom salt soaks
3. Clean dry crate
4. Iodine, iodine, iodine (White iodine)

It's awful seeing them suffer isn't it! :(
