Strange yellow mass found in 8 week old chicks bedding

I have 1 cockerel (Black Copper Maran) and 5 pullets (Salmon Faverolles, Black Copper Maran, Blue Maran, White Maran, Super Blue), that are 8 weeks old.

The cockerel had been sick, he was very lethargic and when I had picked him up, he vomited clear, thick liquid. He would only drink water and not eat any food (medicated crumbles). He had watery poop. I massaged his crop which seemed to make him feel better. The liquid did not smell, and neither did his breath (so didn't seem like sour crop). The next day when I went to pick him up, he vomited fluid again, but this time it had a long string of nesting pad in it. My coop (sand bedding) has two levels and the hens are in the top, little ones in the bottom, so some of the nesting pad material blows into the lower portion on occasion (I usually pick it out). --After another day, he's doing good. Perked back up, preening, eating food, harder poop, so I assumed it was because of the string coming out....but what has me stumped is I found this strange yellow, rubbery mass in their bedding. I cut it open and it appears to be flesh inside, and it stinks bad. It seemed pretty huge in relation to the birds, but I don't know where else it would have come from.

Has anybody else seen anything like this? Wondering if this was 'plugging up' my cockerel and that's why he was 'off'?

It almost reminds me of "lash egg" or salpingitis. But you say it's from an 8wk old, soooo...It's possible it could be intestinal shedding, that accumulated and finally passed. If you find any more, let us know. It's a puzzle for sure.

Little guy is doing good. Eating like a horse after not doing anything but drinking for 3 days. His crop feels a little distended when empty in the morning, but seems to be the only side affect so far.
