I couldn’t get a picture of Storm today because she is under the coop hanging out in the shade. I’ll have to keep better records when I get around to breeding to a standard with the new White Bresse eggs in the incubator and Marans when I get around to getting better Marans

I did my final candling and removed the egg turner from the incubator last night. It was a couple days early but with my work schedule it was the easiest time for me. I have read that eggs don’t technically need turning after 14 days. I’ll wait to crank up the humidity. I found and removed 3 more unviable eggs. Currently have 29 eggs still going. 9 Bresse and 20 BYM. I expect to start hearing peeps about Wednesday and see chicks Thursday evening into Friday

I also purchased used a yardbird chicken plucker off facebook marketplace. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend but about 1/2 the cost of new so I went for it. I figured if I’m going to get serious about breeding a separate truly dual purpose flock I might as well have the tools to do it. Weather permitting I’ll probably test it out this week. I have 3 cockerels that are ready and maybe a few hens that need retiring.

I’m really not looking forward to the hens but I made a decision to breed for improvement and to be honest some of these girls aren’t really good enough to breed forward. I have considered trying to rehome them but the ones that need to go aren’t won’t make good layers for someone else.

We have our first external pip right on time 12 hours into day 20.

Broody hen on standby and anxiously waiting for however many chicks I decide to give her.

The Brooder room(laundry room as my wife calls it) is all prepped and ready. I had to install a new outlet as to avoid running a cord in front of a door.
