Stray cats :(

Thank you all for the responses. It makes sense that the cats will not be repelled by human urine because they’re too close to humans.

One of our two hens did make noise this morning to alert us of the cat and my husband chased it off.
Last night when I saw the cat, I made noise to chase it away and it disappeared very quickly.

That’s all we’ve done over the years. We‘ll just have to keep doing that with every new cat.

Cayenne pepper POWDER is used around the coop ,yard, garden, ,etc to deter dogs, cats, skunks, rats, coons, fox, you name it! Get a 1 pound bag of it and spread it generously with a duster (same type you spread diatomaceous earth with ). Be SURE to wear protective clothing and a MASK otherwise it'll set YOU on fire if you get any on you.Trying to wash it off with water won't work and can make it worse. Wash it off with dish detergent and water then dry your hands and dip them in a bowl of yellow mustard to relieve the pain (inevitable you'll get SOME on you)It may take up to 30 minutes for the burning to stop. The yellow mustard works on your skin BUT I don't recommend anything for the eyes (google that 1st before using it). Capsaicin is the active ingredient in cayenne pepper and is used in make pepper spray for defense.

Cats won't be repelled by human urine. Even feral cats in pretty remote places have people around too much.

And after reading the above... that makes sense. Maybe not afraid of human scent but is afraid of that individual human and, maybe, their scent. Especially if you are out at unpredictable times.
SSSP works.

I make medicinal tinctures for personal use and Cayenne is one I've been making a long time .I can take a whole dropper in a glass of orange juice or tea where I use to take a few drops. You won't be disappointed if you use it around your coops to deter predators in powder form.It won't hurt them or kill them but it will set them on fire for for about 15-20 minutes .

I had a stray cat killing my chickens. It would come every few nights until I caught it with one of those humane traps you can buy. One night it broke into a cage, killed a hen and ate the head, and took the rooster. Don't let anyone tell you a cat can't kill a full grown rooster. Cats can be vicious.

If you want something you can put on the soil sprinkle the cayenne powder or flakes on the ground.Keep away from small children and pets. You can buy the powder or flakes on Amazon and other stores.Re-appy occasionally. It won't hurt your chickens.
