Stray chicken. She's a beauty! Need opinions.

Found her! She's laying on a nest in a brush pile behind the run. That's why she seemed to appear out of nowhere this morning. She's perfectly camouflaged underneath some dead pine boughs. If she hatches out some br / game chicken babies I'm going to just faint. Lol

She's so awesome.

That is one independent Gal you have there, she is quite a character. Maybe you could put some water with ACV in it close to her nesting area, and some feed with extra protein in it. Keep her strength up! Looking forward to the next instalment

Aww thanks! I'm glad you guys are here letting me pour out my worries and y'all care! I did put some water and feed next to the brush pile. So she'll come out once a day to eat then go back? How long do I let her try to hatch them? Do I give her the 21 days? Will she give up on her own?

Hey, glad to share the journey you're telling us about but I don't know much! Just a newbie myself. But I've browsed enough BYC to suggest you could wait that sort of time. Maybe she'll give up before then - maybe she won't. Maybe you won't see much of her till she brings you her little chicks to admire. How cool would that be. Of course, it depends on how that fits in with you. It looks and sounds like you have the space to experiment for a bit and see where it leads you.

I only have a suburban backyward and a little flock of four. No rooster so no joyful bundles of chick down. But also no cockeral-culling etc etc.

I've loved the Gretel story since it first caught my eye. I figure she could give you a whole new exciting chapter to write about!

All the best
Katrina
