Stray chicken. What do I do?, and it’s been SO hot.

After I found her I picked her up and put her in my lap and tried to give her water. She wouldn’t have anything to do with it and sort of growled at me. I think she was terrified. I will treat her well and hopefully she will warm up to me.

I’m sure she will warm up to you. It just takes some time. Mealworms have never failed me yet.

Home for the moment! I put a box in there with bedding if she decides to lay or needs a comfy place to rest. The bushes provide quite a bit of protection, so hopefully she will be safe.

I would personally take it in and introduce it to the flock. I would however inspect it first to see if it might have an injury or something of the sort. If you do not want to integrate it into your flock I would build it separate coop and give it new chicken friends.

My husband just named her Ann Frank poor thing.

Yay, You're keeping her!!!

A lady once traded me a bedraggled looking Leghorn hen with drooping comb and all, for some hatching eggs. I just put her with my chickens and her comb was standing upright again within a couple of weeks, she learned how to roost, and laid me a ton of enormous white eggs!! I know nothing of her history, but she was a great bird.
