Stray female ring neck pheasant

Putting feed out isn't always in the best interest of the bird. Sometimes they become dependent on it and when it's not there anymore, don't know how to forage for food stuffs, especially pen raised birds. If the ground is covered with snow or ice, I'd put some feed out for her, otherwise, let her forage on her own. The main thing to be aware of is the need for water, especially if other sources are frozen.

She'll find her own places to roost at night. Sounds like she has already found the places she likes. Good luck!

I release lots every year, most disappear but a few stick it out through the winter here and and at few of my neighbors. They come to bird feeders and like hen scratch or wild bird feed, if they find a deer bait pile they love the deer chow (oats, whole corn, wheat and black oil sunflower seeds).
Sometimes I won’t see them for several days so they must be finding something to eat but they always come back to the spots that food was at. Can you tuck an old Christmas tree by the wood pile, she’ll like to hide under that.
Good luck!

Well, she is still here! I check on her daily if I don't see her and she is either somewhere under cover in my yard or now, she likes to sit out at the end of the street under a shrub there or out in the open grass. I live on a short, quiet dead end street at the very end so she is still safe except... for a stray cat that I believe she tangled with.
I found feathers by my wood/brush pile where she was hanging out, but when I found her, she seemed fine. The next morning there was a bit of blood in the snow at the end of the street where she spent the night, so again i feared she was hurt, but again seemed okay. Then I saw the cat limping through the neighbor's yard and I believe she nailed it with her beak. She seems a bit more nervous now and wary of the brush pile.
I am concerned that she doesn't fly or roost in a tree at night. Do they all sleep in trees as I have read, or do some stay on the ground? She runs like crazy, but no flying.
Thank you for asking about her! I don't get notifications in my email regarding this thread, so I will check it daily. I so appreciate all of the help!

Thank you! I don't put up a real Christmas tree, but know many that do, so I will see if I can get one :)

They will get in trees but very rarely. Most of the time they will roost on the ground.
