Stray Hen

It depends how long she has been broody, if it has only been one or two days then go for it! How long have the eggs been refrigerated for though? Any longer then a couple of days will likely give the egg less chance of developing. Can you post a picture of your chicken?
She's been broody for 5 days now. so the eggs were taken 6 days ago or longer.

Here's the hen before she became broody.

Here's the hen in broody mode. She found a place between some storage items to squeeze between.

It will never turn into a chicken unless it is incubated, so you don't have to worry about eating a baby chicken.
Yes I know that. but the thought that if I didn't take the egg, it would have turned into a chick is kinda upsetting.

Wouldn’t that be something Shamo.....it is possible the same situation huh? I wish the effort was made to find her rightful home. (Flash back of Lassie)(your probably too young to know)
Unfortunately I have 2 jobs so I'm quite busy and don't have the time to go knock on each door to see if they are missing a chicken. I doubt people would want me to knock on their doors at 11pm when I get home either.

Also there's no guarantee that someone won't claim they lost a chicken even though they didn't. BTW, if the chicken decided to leave the home, do they have a right to move out or do they belong to the owner? =)

There are many other options in trying to find the owner....but I can tell you do not care to do that. Sometimes they get chased by a predator etc etc...Ever lose a dog??? I have the dog did not choose to leave. A accident tore down our fence my dog freaked. I love my chickens as I do all my pets. At this time doing the right thing (or trying to) is a mute issue.
