Stray Hen

Wear a long sleeved shirt and gloves if you would like, the hen will likely try to peck you. Whilst candling I would recommend putting her in a box or cat carrier, as I find it stresses them out if they can see you messing with their eggs.Wash your hands before candling, and pick the eggs up one at a time, with a soft pillow underneath in case you drop them. It would be great for us to see some pictures! Good luck, and be careful :)
i removed her and put her in a box. Boy was she mad. So there were only 2 eggs. I took both and candled them. They were both clear. I kept them in the house. Are they still edible after 1 week?

I went back out and the hen jumped out of the box and back to where the eggs were. How do you get her to snap out of it?

crack one into a bowl first to make sure there are no veins. If not, it I fine to eat it

If you would like your own chickens then I would recommend getting a coop and then buying your hen some eggs, or that sweet little Brahama cockerel and some more females for her to be friends with.

If not then I would say that you should take her to a shelter, or continue to let her roam.

It really depends on one question:

Do you want your own backyardchickens?

What does it mean if it has veins? I accidentally dropped one of my fertile egg, so I cracked it open to see what it looked like and it had veins....... is that normal? Even if I haven't incubate it yet?

Definately not normal! How was the area where the eggs were being kept? They'll only develop veins if they have been kept at a proper incubation temperature.

it was left out in the pen for about a week now, temps here have been around 100..... hen never sat on the eggs either. You think I should just go ahead and grab the rest and start incubating them? I really want to leave them alone and see if my hen set on it though, and she's not done with her clutch yet.

veins appear after three days of incubation. If the eggs are kept in a warm room, they will develop. About 99.5. On the farm, especially when we had a rooster, we opened the eggs into a bowl.

Probably not. We'll just let her roam. I'm sure if she wants to join a coop she would have followed other chickens. Will she realize there's no more eggs and stop brooding?

So eggs are still edible after being under a 100 degree sun for a week? I'm so afraid to crack an egg open and find vein. Would feel like I killed it!
