We got 2 ducks (turned out to be Pekin) with our 4 chickens and they’ve become quite attached to each other over these past 4-5 weeks. The ducks were not as well researched as the chickens and unfortunately we didn’t provide enough niacin in their diet and they’re having some trouble. Additionally, they’re so much bigger than the chicks now that in the brooder there’s no room for anyone to move and the chicks sit on their roost all day and then poop on the ducks below. We decided to separate them today. There’s only a couple weeks til they can go outside, they spend all day outside now and come back inside to the brooder for the night since temps are still kind of low. I wanted to be able to keep a better eye on the ducks and their health and progress, too. The chicks are UPSET. They are used to being with the ducks and even though they’re in the same room and close to each other, they don’t like that they’re not in the brooder with them. Will this stress them out too much and should I just revert back to their old messy arrangement, or will they get over it?
