Question to those who's chickens hang around with you in the house. What about the poo on your carpet, hardwood floors, computer, kitchen table, clothes? When you go out to play with your chicks I assume you wear clothes that you don't care if they poo on, but inside? I'm no neat freak, just wondering...

I tried diapers for my pet roo but it was so distracting for him he was no fun to have around. I just clean up the poo after him. Luckily he has a few places where he prefers to be and I put down easy-to-clean coverings in those spots. He is on his favorite blanket right now!

Cookie and Candy r my pets and I eat the eggs.
Since they started laying they've become aggressive and I 'm afraid to handle them now. They r fun to watch, especially when I feed them kitchen scraps and fresh clover.

Believe it or not... but Wilamena really doesn't poo in the house much. And when she does, I clean it up immediately. When she is sleeping somewhere, she has a drop cloth under her... adult pads from BJs Warehouse...

She is usually outside a while before coming in... and if we make her fly up to us, she dumps her load before actually coming in the house, then we are good for an hour or so. I make sure she goes into her hutch regularly or outside to do her business.

With only one running around in the house, totally supervised, it's not too bad.

I get a few poos on the carpet and maybe on the pleather chair. I keep a spray bottle of this miracle apple cleaner and some paper towels handy. The chair cleans up easy and even a wet one will come up out of the carpet with a few spray and dabs.

I have a spotbot and a hoover steamvac if a someone drops a cecal poop. If we are having an event where someone might sit or lay on the carpet I steamvac the whole living room first.

When they are actually on me they don't poop.

Oh Rachael you'd fit in here well with our family! Both my daughters and I are vegetarians. My hubby isn't, but we don't buy meat...he gets his when he goes out for lunch if he wants. I would no more think of eating our chickens then I would our horses or dogs etc. I try to be tolerant of others including my extented family when it comes to eating animals...but I myself just can't justify the taking of a life for a few minutes of gratification. In my opinion its not just the taking of a life... but the terrible life most are subject to in order to end up on our plates.
If anyone cares about animal welfare and is sitting on the fence trying to decide if they should be vegetarian or not...watch Earthlings on youtube. It may very well make up your mind for you.
We're not alone! but we are definitely a minority.

Have a great day!

I got my chickens strictly as pets. I have5cochin bantams (as we know they hardly lay) and I will let mine live a full life. If they aver got any disease Id pay whatever i could to save it.

Our chickens are our companion animals; we're also vegans-except-the-eggs-the-girls-lay. We plan to enjoy the bounty of eggs if and while we have them, but the girls are our pets first and foremost, and they certainly won't be killed simply because they stop producing them.
