What should I do? I have 10 eggs left its the 22nd day and I have 16 healthy chicks removed from the incubator. I see and hear no movement and no pips in the eggs in the bator and there is such a horrid smell coming from there. Should I smell each egg and put it back if ok? Or is it normal for the incubator to stink after all the mess and hatched eggs that I have not removed? Would appreciate any input.

There should be a big difference in the smell of hatched chicks and a rotten egg. But, they do smell some what after several have hatched.

If its a rotten egg smell smell the eggs

I had 18 hatch out just yesterday and there was no smell. If the bator smells bad, I would suspect a bad egg(s), find it/them and remove them. 4 of mine never pipped so I candled them, saw no movement, opened them up and they were dead. So sad, they were kicking all around when they went into lockdown.

so it wont hurt with the temp and humidity at this point to take eggs out and put them back?

i would smell the eggs and gently remove any that stink... eggs can start rotting, and explode. i've heard of people picking up an egg and it exploding in their hand and them smelling like the rotten egg for weeks.

these fumes are also detrimental to any live eggs you may still have. remove the egg/eggs gently and move it/them out in a bag in case it/they explode!

(i would also remove any shells/waste from the first chicks' hatch)

ok Im going to start smelling..yuck. should I be seeing any movement or hearing any peeping on the 22nd day? also, none of these have pipped either. is that usually the case on this day?

I smelled them all and none smelled bad. I think it was the dirty yellow water in there. I quickly dumped it and put in fresh warm water. Temp is back up again. How long should I wait to candle them or stop incubating them?

Dont candle.. It wont help at this point.
I would keep it going till about day 24 maybe..

Did you have any big temp swings?

temp only dropped a little for about 10 - 15 minutes about a week or two ago and then only when I candled at 18 days for just a few minutes and then now that I have taken the old shells out. thats about it.
