Stubborn hen with prolapse...what to do!!

My husband let's me try...I wanted to keep going , but he will interfere if he feels that no matter what I do will help and if the hen is suffering. I was a little upset this mornin that he wouldn't let me try more, but in my heart. Iknow he did the right thing. I have 37 birds 3 are working on three weeks in recovery from stupid weasel attack...I have never lost so many birds in one winter feeling sick to my stomach and heart broke... Thank you

Heather, this is the price we pay for loving our chickens. It hurts a lot when tragedy comes in between our love for them and external elements such as illness and predator attacks that are completely out of our control. This love may cause us pain when this happens, but love is never a bad thing. Focus on that, not on the thing that interfered.

I am sorry about your hen...this was my first prolapse and I tried to hold the vent back in for five minutes wearing gloves, but I didn't have any success. I know it best if they don't lay for awhile and someone told me to crush a tums up for fast acting calcium...I also heard it's good to give them it then let them soak for 20 minutes in the tub with warm water... I am sorry I can't be of much help... maybe start a form on her there are some pretty knowledgeable people on here.. sorry and good luck. :hugs
