Stuck in a Blizzard

So, I live here in Colorado and some of you may know we’re getting hit with a pretty brutal blizzard right now. My husband had to open my coop door this morning so the chickens could eat and drink and I figured after they were done eating and drinking they would spend the day in the coop. There’s two feet of snow so far and extreme winds so I didn’t think the chickens would spend much time outside. He went back out this afternoon to check on them and they were all in the coop soaking wet. Not sure if they are wet to the skin but they looked pretty drenched. The winds were so bad it almost ripped the door off the coop and he didn’t have much time to examine before he had to kick the door back in place and lock it . He managed to lock them in for the rest of the day. Do you all think they will be okay? He couldn’t tell if any of them were shivering or anything because it was so windy and the snow was swirling everywhere and he was just trying to get in and out as fast as he could so the door wouldn’t rip off and so I wasn’t letting all the warmth out. What should I do?

I am also in Colorado.

Hang tough mine have done that several times in colder temps then we have forecasted over the years and they all have been ok. It is usually just the outer feathers that get soaked.

Just make sure that hey have food and water in the coop while this storm rages on.

If you venture out to check on them take him with so he can hold the door while you check on them.

Here in Loveland it is insane with 2+ feet on the ground and not letting up.

Yeah we let our dogs out and they all sunk in the snow and couldn’t move haha I’m in Parker and the snow isn’t letting up. The snow drifts are pretty bad. Thanks for the info! I was gearing up to put the chickens in my bath tub 😂😬

Well that would have entertained the dogs! :lau

We have a few branches down in my area and in my yard. Keep an eye for all that stuff overhead when you go outside.

It's more than belly deep on my bloodhound. At least it is supporting her big feet some so she doesn't sink. She thinks it's a blast!

In Texas we complained about a few inches.
I personally enjoyed it but I spent several years in the Cumberland mountains so I was semi prepared.
Anyway, I just wanted to wish you all well @JaredandLauren & @21hens-incharge
Thank you ! It’s not anything we haven’t seen before, but it’s our first year with chickens so I was more concerned about them haha!

You might as well post some pictures (from the view through window of course) so the rest of us can enjoy the scenery too. 😁
I was pretty concerned about mine too when we got below zero. Only one of them was old enough to have seen our last snow. They did ok though. Just a little boredom and a few minor pecking injuries. I had to use a bq lighter to thaw the door hinges one morning. I cannot imagine how hard it is for y'all.
