YEAH !!! Great advice Greyfields. The chicken may not be the only one in mortal danger... the .22 bullet has a trajectory range of 1 MILE.

Either use the broom stick method, or buy and use a killing cone.

You can make a killing cone out of an old hot water heater's metal jacket. You need a good pair of tin snips, some drafting skills. a screw gun and a file. Design and draw it out on a grocery sack, cut it out and see if it will work. Be sure to include tabs to attach the ends. Make it a little bigger than you think you will need.

with a pellet gun,, your aiming at a spot about the size of the pellet,, hang the bird by the legs, and cut his jugular,, easiest aiming you can get.

I think most folks who are asking about shooting a bird in the head are talking about with the bird captive, perhaps with the head down on a bale of straw or something else suitable, gun muzzle right up against the head. That makes it a little hard to miss.

I don't think many people would plan to be taking pot shots at them, on the run in the yard, blasting up the neighborhood.

People have posted before about dispatching birds with a pellet gun, I don't recall who it was, but they said it worked fine. A forum search would probably locate the post.

Yes. Pound two nails into a slice of fire wood. Place the chicken's neck between the nail then pull the legs back stretching it. Place the rifle at the back of the head, pointing away from yourself, and pull the trigger.

I have done many different methods, The easiest for me is to use a killing cone and a pair of sharpened tree loppers.

I did make our killing cones, so we didn't have the expense of buying any.

Most people here are novice chicken raisers. I bet you dollars to donuts they have never had any type of firearm in their hands much less fire one. Please don't, on a public forum, advocate them using a firearm as someone will get HURT or KILLED. Pounding 2 NAILS ( metal objects) into some firewood (wich is unstable ) then stretching the chicken and YOURSELF so that you can place the barel at the back of said chicken's head makes for a very unstable situation. Add one's own adrenalin... Moving the gun barel even a fraction of an inch just as one pulls the trigger, bulet could hit one of the nails and ricochet and hit you or someone else causing great BODILY HARM or DEATH.
