Stun to kill.

Point is this, if you can not control a hatchet or a knife then stay away from a gun. Most of your readers are not in a safe location to fire a .22 or any other firearm. If they were then the site would be called BackPasturechickens.

Advocating shooting into a stump or other close range object is dangerous especially to those that are clueless about the physics and behaviors of a bullet.

Those that hunt won't need advice on how to dispatch a chicken with a rifle.

I get this horrible picture of my boys hiding behind the hay bales waiting for the chickens to come out of the coop the next time we slaughter some. I say horrible cuz they didn't invite me

...I am actually planning on shooting a turkey tomorrow with a pellet gun. I don't think the hatchet plan will work on him like it does on chickens...my arms aren't long enough and he is big!

shoot a turkey with a pellet gun and it'll just make him mad.

LOL

I shot a skunk with my pellet pistol and it just bounced right off it's head.

Where do you get a pellet gun that'll kill a coon?

I have seen an electric stun/kill device in action at an abattoir on a turkey...very dangerous...but very effective.
If I remember they were hung in an electrically grounded metal fork type thing by the feet.
The electrodes were on springloaded calipers and placed on either side of the gobblers head. After all were "clear" they hit the switch for the stun/kill, then the throat slit to drain the blood. quick and clean. but these guys were trained slaughterhouse guys too.

There are many pellet guns that exceed .22's in balistics. Almost all are better than .22 shorts and lots of trappers carry those (22 shorts) because there is very little noise and little fur damage.

Processed my first over the weekend; the cone worked well. I wanted something quick, safe and humane, which I think is everyone's goal here, especially because it *is* somewhat distasteful, but necessary. Good post, mhaines4102.

I seriously doubt that Jesus Christ ever shot a chicken. I can't believe that any one would advocate the methods you describe. I was of the opinion that you were a stable individual. I guess that will change. also just checked the post before this edit "darn" was not the word used in the first post.
