Hello Mother Hen!

She has imprinted you as mama so enjoy it. I have an 18 week old mama's girl....also fondly known as "Stalker Chicken" she follows me everywhere and rides in the van with me to my fav coffee shop to get my coffee. hahahahahahaha

Cetawin,

How is your little one who was worrying you and you were nursing back to health?

Sonia

Sonia, she passed away about 2 am in my hand. I went in to feed her and she stood up in my hand, eyes open and bright and then sat down and was gone.

My first loss but I did everything I could.

Sorry for hijacking the thread

I am so sorry to hear that. I know it's heart-breaking. And don't worry about the thread. I asked you about it. At least you able to be there with her at the end, though I think that probably makes it harder on you. I have only lost one chick, but I know it to be distressing. I am thinking of you...

Oh, my goodness! Now that's funny. I suppose it could work... poop would be an issue...

That and my husband would have me committed. He already thinks I'm nuts and that this new baby is a diva. That's what were going to call her. Diva.

This is a funny thread!!

Did I mention I can relate, since "Brownie" the baby roo, has bonded with me and does the same thing. I made a crucial decision the first night to put him in the chicken coop so that he at least "tries" to learn how to be a real chicken. He's about 4 weeks old and basically begs begs begs to snuggle everytime I walk out the front door (he hangs around the porch alot probably because I do pick him up alot -- and feed him treats).

Today he snuck into the house riding on my shoulder and had a nap while I typed on the computer. ha.

Good luck!

They just don't like to be alone. Having only 2 if I take one out of the brooder the other one starts screaming at me. If I hold both they are fine and the one I'm holding is always fine. One of them also had a much harder time hatching and so slept alot the first week. If it's sibling was sleeping too long and it got lonely the other one would come up to the front of the brooder and just start cheeping as loud as it could until I started talking to it. Social animals.

Okay, the Polish Chick I posted about earlier that I thought was sickly has perked up and is eating and drinking. I am so relieved. But here's the problem. I held this chick and tried to hand feed it a good bit today. I kept it close as much as I could and tried to help it stay warm. (Figuring my 98.6 hands were warmer than the brooder...) It settles right in around my neck and hair or in my hands. But if set this baby down she squawks so loudly. It's a really loud, frantic sound. She's the smallest chick I've ever had with the loudest mouth I've ever seen on a baby chick. As soon as I pick her up she hushes and settles in for a nap. But she will cheep for a long, long time if I don't. In fact, I haven't been able to get her to hush more than a few minutes since I got her early this morning unless I hold her... Maybe I am a push over, but I keep holding her. She's moving well, eating well, is now as active as the others. She's just really loud and demanding it seems. Could something else be wrong? I keep telling myself no because she hushes when I pick her up and doesn't start again til I put her back in the brooder.
I think it is funny seeing this. I have a chick that my husband thought was dead and in fact sat it aside because it was hanging half way out of the egg not moving and looked to not be breathing. I brought it in and peeled the rest of the egg off easily and it started moving, I warmed it up and got it strong and slipped it back under its momma that night, well the next day I went out to check on it and it was almost dead and left alone in a muddy part of the grass where it had been raining, so I brought it in again and got it all dry and warm and kept it in and noticed it has something wrong with one of its legs and cant move well. I figured this is why it was left. I tried putting it in the grass and let it chirp and momma came. The baby got up under her and she sat on them for awhile but when she went to move it was left behind again so I said no more trying with momma. So for 4 days now I have had it inside in a tote with heat, food and sugar water but if it hears me it will start chirping so loud until I finally pick it up and fold the bottom of my shirt over it and it will settle and fall asleep lol. I believe I have spoiled a chicken haha. I am hoping its little leg heals or gets stronger so it can go outside eventually.
