Exactly. My dog is a husky/shepherd mix and he gets runnin around the yard and you get dizzy just looking at him. Seriously. My dog lives outside and comes in to sleep in the guest bathroom on cold nights but he prefers to be outside.

We had problems with him when we first got him (from my brother) when he was about 1 year old. He chewed everything in site. Then I realized he just wanted more attention. I gave him more attention and he's a perfect angel now...he still runs and jumps like he has no sense though.

A good way to get an energetic dog more exercise is to teach it to fetch or play Frisbee. Most people can throw a lot longer than they can run. I start teaching puppies to fetch from the time I get them. It really helps, especially during adolescence, when they are so full of energy.

Hi! I walked him on Saturday for about a half hour. My mom has no dog training experiance and just lets him pull her around. I am far from an expert but I showed dogs once and went to numerous clinics and training sessions. I was able to make him walk calmly at my side. I tried teaching him frisbee, but he was afraid of it and chewed it up.

my experience with huskies is that they're not big fetchers; many of them didn't even like to play with toys.

what they like to do is run. and then run. and then run some more. and if you can throw in a little game of chase or tag, so much the better! and when they get tired of running, they run slower.

we had SOOOOO many of them show up at the shelter because they also like to escape..... and then run.

I think you should see if you could find a racer who would like another dog, and see if you could get your mom's dog rehomed; honestly, from the sounds of it he is going to need a VERY committed rehabber to help him move to Good Canine Companion status.

You say your mom loves the dog, but it sounds to me like she is being selfish; is the way the dog is living now really in the best interest of the dog????

Huskeys are that way by nature, but the can be trained.
They are generally very intellegent dogs.

Find him a home where someone will have the time and patience to train him.

This is so true. My husky/shepherd likes his toys but what he does is run with a ball in his mouth, then he drops it...runs around it about 50 times then picks it up again. If I throw the ball he won't go after it. He really is a runner. Me and DH will stand outside and act like we're about to grab him and he takes off like a bat outta heck. Then he comes back wanting us to try and grab him again. He calms down after he runs for about 10 minutes...then he wants hugs.
Here's my boy with his favorite treat, eggs:

He's so silly.

A husky rescue came to the local dog pound this week to pick up another problem husky that had been there for 4 months. She was adopted out 4 times but they all sent her back because she was too dominant over everything. So, last Saturday we took ogg dog there, so he is now in Canada. He will only go to the very best home, with someone who understands them. I guess huskys aren't for everyone. Well, since them I let out 16 chickens to free range on the farm, and more each day. It is too hard to feed chickens on a big hill, in the garage, in a dog kennel, outside, and in the house. A total of 7 pens. Plus the chickens are sooooooooo happy! The cochins were moved from a 2x4 pen to all the room in the world! Well somewhat. I was going to sell all the extra roosters for meat, but as long as they don't become really aggressive, they can stay. Out of my 50 or so chickens about 20 are roosters. Unfortunatly. That includes the silkies I can't get rid of. 6 3 month olds and 9 chicks and a bunch of eggs. Need a silkie?
