Stupid me!

I've Had to divide my flock as I have new chicks in w older ones. 6 live inside coop and 2 live in run in a tub with chips and a wood barrier for rain etc... Tonight I noticed the leghorn was not in the tub with the other- she was on a branch I put in the run on the babies side. So I lifted her and put her in the tub... Stupid me reading now how they roost when they sleep- it's still cold out and I was worried....

Sorry I don't understand your problem. Are you speaking of young chicks being outside?

Sorry my question was disguised with a DUH moment-
I couldn't believe I stopped my hen from rousting - putting her in the nest at night. But it was cold so maybe it was ok? should I let her sleep outside when it's 35 degrees? Can't wait until they all can be together in the coop. Too dangerous yet one hen is very mean to the little ones.

I am not sure I understand either, but after 6 weeks old, chicks can go out to the coop. They will all roost up together and keep each other warm on the roost bar. Babies will sometimes want to sleep in the nest boxes. You should block off the nest boxes at night until the babies learn to roost at night. I like to put roosting areas in my brooder to teach the babies early on about roosting, so when they head out to the coop, they know what to do.

Hello and Welcome To BYC! If I understand correctly you have the two six week old babies in a run by themselves, and one of them decided to roost/ sleep outside on a branch instead of in the tub/house where she was protected from the weather? At six weeks I don't think I would want a chick sleeping outside when it is 35* out, if it rains or she gets wet you could have a very chilled chick. They are at the age though where they will be wanting more and more to roost, is there anyway you can modify the baby run so they can roost in the tub or something?

I have 2 older hens (9mos) who are living in the run while the babies are in the coop...
I was worried about the cold and the older ones too... but I guess they know what to do?
