Honestly, there are less expensive and more effective products out there than kitty litter. As a cat fancier myself, I don't even use kitty litter for kitties because its too expensive for as many cats as I sometimes have. I use wood animal bedding/stove pellets purchased at an ag supply shop for both kitty litter and as a base for coop bedding with straw, paper from the shredder, dried leaves or even peat moss mixed in. I am not using the deep litter method, I clean my coop out entirely once a week and scoop regularly, with all bedding going into my composer. Wood pellets expand when they get damp, so all you need is just enough to cover the bottom of your coop or litter tray.
