thank you.

Hold their wings flat against their body and then you can pick them up from the underside,in front of the legs, kind of in a cradle sort of way.
You may want to hold up their legs at the same time. And then keep one hand on the front of the body so they don't fall forward.

There are no stupid questions.

This picture below is of my daughter and our duck Ping. As you can see she's probably not holding Ping in the best way but she doesn't care. Our ducks are really tame and don't really care how you hold them. I usually pick ours up around the breast area just in front of the legs then tuck them under one arm.

I don't have to pick up ducks that often, but when I have, I usually hold them under the breast with their wings closed and then rest them on my arm. But, I've only had to pick up small mallards so far.

I've heard something about not putting pressure on their abdomen, especially if they're female, as it could crush their eggs inside them. Maybe that was for picking up or handling geese.

Well, when I had my really big Pekin duck, and I myself was still pretty lil, I had to grab him and wrap both my arms around him, having to hold him tightly against my chest, just to lift him from the ground, but now that I am bigger and I only have lil call ducks, I can pin their wings against their bodies with one hand if need be and comfortably hold them in the crook of my elbow with their face bared in my shirt this seems to calm them down, and I hold their feet in my hand to make sure they don’t scratch me. I really enjoy having lil ducks way more than big ones!

I pick mine up multiple times a day and have figured out the perfect way. I don't get scratched and they are totally calm... I can post pics later but will describe now. I take my right hand and put it under the butt, left hand on chest. Lift and tilt the back to my chest (gently). Basically the feet are pointing out, belly out with my hands supporting the entire front side. Head rests on my arm. They can fight but rarely do, I think it makes them feel secure. My mom said she used to carry us like that.
